This year we want to introduce you to our designers, so you can get to know them and what makes them tick. We hand pick every jewellery designer we work with for their distinctive style, UK based designs, and exceptional quality.
To kick things off we'd like to introduce you to Rachel Boston, renowned for her use of more unusual diamonds paired with modern silhouettes is immediately recognisable as her own, yet her pieces remain truly timeless.
We asked her a few questions about her creations and the bespoke process.
What is your favourite gemstone to work with and why?
It’s perhaps a boring answer but diamonds have always been my favourite gemstone to work with.
I’m particularly drawn to more unusual diamonds, whether it's an unconventional cut or a striking colour like a pale yellow, or fancy grey. With diamonds the timeless appeal really comes down to their beauty and versatility.
The way they capture and refract light, creates a hypnotic brilliance that can elevate any piece of jewellery so I always find them exciting to work with.
How do you pick the gemstones you work with?
For our most recent collection of Engagement rings I sourced only Antique and Reclaimed diamonds which was a really fun project as the stones informed the design rather than the other way around. I was sourcing diamonds from Auctions, markets, online and some of my regular diamond dealers.
I really tried to focus on how the diamonds made me feel and if I felt excited by them. I wasn’t focused on the certificates at all but instead on how much ‘character’ the stones had. I was looking for diamonds that felt like they had history and could start a conversation.
What's your favourite thing about creating bespoke rings?
I love making bespoke rings because it allows me to create pieces that are uniquely tailored to each client’s story. It’s a collaborative effort to create something that will resonate with the wearer and hopefully become a cherished heirloom in their family.
It also encourages me to experiment with different materials, designs and techniques and be pushed in directions I might not naturally explore on my own. It feels like such a privilege to transform individual ideas into beautiful, one-of-a-kind creations that celebrate our client’s personal milestones or represent a special moment in their lives.
If someone came to you looking for a bespoke ring but had no idea what they're looking for, how do you work with them?
When buying an engagement ring, the best advice I can give is to go try some rings on in person. There is a huge amount of advice on the subject online, but nothing will replace being able to see how something looks and feels on your hand.
It's a fairly regularly occurrence for our clients to come in with a specific ring in mind, only for them to fall in love with a completely different style! So I always try to encourage people to book in for an appointment at our showroom to try on the full collection.
I encourage our clients to try on different styles even if it’s something completely out of their comfort zone so we can begin to narrow down a direction and look for commonalities in what they’re drawn to.
